Here are answers to some common inquiries.
Do I need a doctor’s referral for any of the ultrasounds?
No, a referral from an OB office or Midwife is not required for any of our elective ultrasounds.
Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
No. Elective ultrasounds at Peek a Boo Premier are not meant to replace any medical diagnostic ultrasound provided by your OB office or Midwifery.
Any elective ultrasound should not be confused with or used in place of medical care or a diagnostic ultrasound.
If you are receiving any diagnostic ultrasound with Peek a Boo Premier, the images, measurements, video and reports will be forwarded to the ordering physician or midwife. If you are self-ordering any of our diagnostic scans, our office staff will go over what is required and what follow-up will be needed.
It is the responsibility of all clients to find their own healthcare provider that specializes in OBGYN to ensure you are getting medical care for the pregnancy.
Is having an ultrasound safe? Is there any harm to me or my baby?
Extensive studies conducted over the last 35 years have found that ultrasounds have not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is normal and used extensively throughout the world.
No radiation is used in ultrasounds! Ultrasounds are similar to the echolocation process used by animals like bats and dolphins. Medical ultrasound, sonar and echolocation all use the same fundamental principle of sending out sound waves and listening for the echoes that bounce back to create a map of the environment. These become the 2D images. 3D images and 4D movement is the process of using all the two-dimensional images in a software program that renders three dimensional images or a video in “real time”.
Do you take any insurance?
No, insurance does not cover the costs of elective ultrasounds.
Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds accepts cash, tap-to-pay, and all major credit/debit cards for payment. (All credit card or tap transactions will incur a 3.5% transaction fee.)
Your deposit of $50 placed on file when you book your appointment will be applied at the time of payment. If you cancel within 24 hours, your deposit will be refundable or transferable.
When can you tell me the gender of my baby?
Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds can provide you with the gender / sex of baby starting at 15 weeks. We do ask that you do not come earlier than this, as many babies are not fully developed until week 15. We are able to give you the news out-loud during your appointment, put the gender / sex determination into an envelope for a later reveal, or offer to call your “secret keeper” for you. Any scenario you need, we will make it happen!!
Certain factors such as extra soft tissue, gestation of baby, fluid level of mom, and fetal position may affect the ability to make any determination the day of your appointment. If this is the case, you will be able to return for free in 1 week.
When should I come in for the best ultrasound experience?
This is different for everyone!
If you are looking to confirm your pregnancy, we can start those as early as 6 weeks and can be done up to 12 weeks!
If you are just checking on baby, we have the comfort scan for 8 weeks to 40 weeks! Done in 2D and shows baby’s size and placement.
If you are looking for gender/ sex determination, the best time is 15 – 22 weeks
If you are looking for features like squishy cheeks, smiles, waving and more, we recommend 27 weeks to 33 weeks.
If you are looking to see if baby is head down, or just want to see them one more time before the big day, we can see you up to 40 weeks with the comfort scan!
There is a scan for ALL stages of pregnancy, and you are welcome to come back during each one of them to compare!
Can I be seen in your office if I’m from out of state or from another country?
Yes! Everyone is welcome at Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds! Let our staff know if you are seeing an out of state OB office or a medical practitioner from another country
No one is turned away based on Race or color, National origin, Sex or gender identity, Religious beliefs, Age, Disability, Sexual orientation or citizenship.
Will I always get perfect images of my baby?
We will try our very best! Ultrasounds are the clearest when the mother is well hydrated! That is why we ask that any mom double her normal water intake for 3 – 4 days before any ultrasound. This will allow the body time to create extra amniotic fluid for the sound wave to travel through.
Sound waves that have plenty of fluid to travel through will come out clearer, more accurate and precise. Some factors that may hinder clear images are; amount of amniotic fluid, gestational age, size of mom, amount of extra soft tissue on abdomen, recent caffeine or sugar intake, and positioning of baby. We do recommend that fuller figured clients should consider having their ultrasound session around 26 – 30 weeks.
There is no way to promise perfect images, or images you might have elsewhere or even from our studio, or that we can always meet everyone’s expectations, but our amazing staff will do everything in their power to make this the best experience for you and your guests!

Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services.

Can I bring in family members during the ultrasound?
Absolutely! The staff at Peek a Boo Premier Ultrasounds are here to make your experience as special as possible! We offer seating for approximately 9 – 10 people to watch the ultrasound with you. There are two areas of seating in the same room, each having a 75” tv to watch. If you have more than 10 guests, that’s okay too! We say the more, the merrier! Any extra guests are welcome to sit on the floor or stand to watch. No one is turned away!
Children of all ages are welcome to attend as well! We provide an area in our ultrasound room with books, toys, games, seating and so much for them to do!
What is your cancellation policy?
Each appointment is required to have a $50 deposit. Please try provide at least 48 hours notice for cancellations, however any cancellation with 24 hours notice is able to have their $50 deposit transferred to another appointment date/time or refunded (minus a $3.50 processing fee).
Any cancellation with less than 24 hours notice will have their $50 deposit become non refundable. Any no show will have their $50 deposit become non refundable.

Will I receive images and video from my appointment?
Yes! Each package has a specific amount of printed images, either in black and white, color or both. The amount of images collected and printed will be based on the position of baby, the fluid level of mom, and the amount of extra soft tissue on mom’s abdomen.
More images and the full video recorded during your visit will be put on to a USB for you to take home and share with family and friends!
If you would like your images to be emailed instead of put on to a USB, let us know and we can do that for you!
What kind of ultrasound equipment do you use to perform ultrasounds?
Our office uses the world’s most premier OB 3D/4D ultrasound machine; the GE Voluson Expert 10. This is the only state-of-the-art ultrasound machine that has frame speed fast enough to allow you to see real-time movement. This allows us to deliver the highest quality 2D and 3D images along with 4D movement with a superior resolution when compared to other ultrasound machines on the market. GE’s Voluson E10 is the premium 4D OB/GYN ultrasound machine!
Do you offer transvaginal ultrasounds?
Peek a Boo Premier is the ONLY office in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee to offer ultrasounds as early as 6 weeks with a transvaginal scan, without a doctor’s order!
